To the Folks of Ponchatoula:

Speaking for my entire family—Allyson, Carlie and Cayse---we are looking forward to moving to Ponchatoula and serving the United Methodist Church. Of course, between now and our first Sunday, which will be June 17th a great deal of work will take place. At the writing of this article, we are still busy packing and preparing for the move. There is just so much work to be done; yet, when the time comes, we will be ready.

Moving day is Tuesday, June 12th From the moment we arrive, Allyson and I will begin putting the house together; and, as you know, that will take several days to accomplish. The same is true with my office. But it will get done as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you are always welcomed to stop by and say “Hello!” But, if you do, you must be willing to step around the clutter.

I have already mapped out our first three Sundays together and I wanted to share just a few words about my plans. On the 17th, I will be sharing a message that will reflect one of my passions---evangelism. Although it will be Father’s Day, and we will be celebrating our Dad’s, my message will focus on a topic that should be central to every United Methodist congregation.

On June 24th, I will share what I call a “musical message”. Music is another one of my passions. Through the last twenty-five years or so, I have put together a rather large collection of contemporary Christian music. In fact, I entered into this area of ministry long before anyone else in the United Methodist Church. For this Sunday, I will sing about five songs.

Finally, on July 1st, which is Communion Sunday, my message will be in the form of a “story”. Many years ago, during a Christmas Eve Service, I shared a story sermon for the first time. Ever since then, perhaps 3-4 times a year, I tell a story instead of preaching a traditional-type of sermon. On this Sunday, I will share one of my favorite stories, one that is most appropriate for our first Communion Sunday together.

Until then, may God always be with you!

Sincerely, Bro.Tom
